DRNT is almost a perfect skin type. Your skin needs a strengthened skin barrier to help skin hold onto water and improve hydration. It is important to maintain good habits to preserve your healthy skin type.
If you are like other DRNT patients, you have probably taken your maintenance-free skin for granted over the years, not realizing just how good you’ve got it. The goal for your skin type is to moisturize and stay on the right track.
What Is DRNT Skin?
DRNT skin is Dry, Resistant, Non-Pigmented, and Tight. This means that your skin has an impaired skin barrier leading to dehydration but is resistant to inflammation and unwanted pigmentation. Your lifestyle habits and age put you in a category that does not yet need anti-aging ingredients. The age range for DRNT skin types is newborn babies to 30 year olds. Over the age of 30, the skin type classification changes to DRNW because it is time to begin anti-aging ingredients. If your lifestyle habits include deleterious behavior such as tanning beds, smoking, and unprotected sun exposure, you will change to a DRNW skin type under the age of 30. The point is- to keep your DRNT status until the age of 30, you must maintain good lifestyle habits.
The Most Common Problems for DRNT Skin Types
DRNTs have an impaired skin barrier which means that water evaporates off of the skin;s surface in a process knowns as transepidermal water loss (TEWL). This can lead to dry, rough, uncomfortable skin or more serious issues such as eczema. Studies have shown that newborns at high risk for developing atopic dermatitis (eczema), allergies and asthma should be moisturized at a young age to prevent these disorders. It is believed that when the skin barrier is impaired, allergens can more easily enter the skin and lead to sensitization and development of allergies that later lead to asthma and other issues. The simple process of twice daily moisturization can reduce this risk.
How to Care for DRNT Skin
The primary goals of your skincare routine are to stay moisturized and protected from the sun. Additionally, here are some general guidelines to keep in mind when caring for DRNT skin:
Cleanse with cream, milk, oil or lotion nonfoaming cleansers instead of foaming cleansers that strip necessary lipids and injure your skin’s protective barrier.
Moisturize with a product that contains the barrier repair ingredients ceramide, fatty acids such as stearic acid and cholesterol.
Sunscreen– All skin types should use a SPF of at least 15 every day to maintain skin health. Chemical sunscreens are an option for those over 13 years old but under the gae of 13, a physical sunscreen such as those containing zinc oxide and titanium are the best options.
Dr. Baumann’s Bottom Line
Your skin is in great shape. Using a barrier repair moisturizer twice a day and a non-foaming cleanser will repair the skin barrier and convert your skin to the healthiest skin type which is ORNT.
